Mural Project
Daphne's proposed mural is an image of a Japanese food cart, or yatai, with several strange creatures sitting having a bite to eat. A woman in a kimono is just leaving her seat, next to a fox and a fish and a frog. The piece is meant to draw the viewer into a mysterious mythical night life, eating sushi and ramen next to curious characters from Japanese folklore.
About the Artist
Daphne Powers is an artist who was raised by artists. After a childhood full of sketching and painting, sculpting and making, she attended Gordon College and enjoyed learning alongside other artists in the art major program. She spent a semester studying in Orvieto, Italy, immersed in the legacies of generations of artists. Lately her work has expanded to include sewing and fibre arts, along with acrylic illustration. She loves incorporating bright colors and intricate patterns into her pieces, with subject matter that looks like a page from a story.
